What is PLARN? The local homeless know!! Plarn is plastic yarn made from plastic shopping bags cut into strips, crocheted or knitted into a sleeping mat with a carrying strap. It takes about 900 bags to make a single mat. To date, POP has donated over 350 finished mats to JOPPA and UBFM (Urban Bicycle Food Ministry). The homeless have expressed their great appreciation for the mats. Creating the mats serve a dual purpose of recycling the plastic bags and giving the users a dry cushion off the ground. Plarn mats are made in the Fellowship Hall at 1:00 pm on Monday afternoons. Want to learn more? Join us!
